    Avec Orima - Designing the brand identity

    The thesis is a document in building the brand image for the authors’ own start-up Avec Orima. It is motivated by the need to take the company from the planning stage to the next very first step of implementing the business – designing the company’s brand identity. The thesis focused on the process of designing the brand identity. The process began with analysing the company and Finnish target market to have the insights on what the company stands for and wants to achieve. The study then continued to examine the competition in Finnish market and identify the points of differences, in order to establish the brand positioning. Upon understanding the Avec Orima brand and what it stands for, the thesis study integrated the brand identity strategy with design skills to create the basic elements of Avec Orima’s visual brand identity – logotype, typography, colours, look and feel, and imagery. Using a sample of 57 people, the authors collected data from a survey. Also, data from market research was presented. As predicted, the results justify the authors’ points on the existing behaviours, trends and rising demands in Finnish market. The authors conclude that, despite a limitation in existing customer behaviours at the moment, there are rising awareness and demand for such a service provider like Avec Orima. This conclusion is the foundation for all further studies, which are based on theoretical data, in defining the company, then brand positioning and brand identity design

    A Survey of Perioperative and Postoperative Anesthetic Practices for Cesarean Delivery

    The aim of this survey was to review cesarean delivery anesthetic practices. An online survey was sent to members of the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). The mode of anesthesia, preferred neuraxial local anesthetic and opioid agents, postoperative analgesic regimens, and monitoring modalities were assessed. 384 responses from 1,081 online survey requests were received (response rate = 36%). Spinal anesthesia is most commonly used for elective cesarean delivery (85% respondents), with 90% of these respondents preferring hyperbaric bupivacaine 0.75%. 79% used intrathecal fentanyl and 77% used morphine (median [range] dose 200 mcg [50–400]). 91% use respiratory rate, 61% use sedation scores, and 30% use pulse oximetry to monitor for postoperative respiratory depression after administration of neuraxial opioids. Postoperative analgesic regimens include: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, acetaminophen, oxycodone, and hydrocodone by 81%, 45%, 25%, and 27% respondents respectively. The majority of respondents use spinal anesthesia and neuraxial opioids for cesarean delivery anesthesia. There is marked variability in practices for monitoring respiratory depression postdelivery and for providing postoperative analgesia. These results may not be indicative of overall practice in the United States due to the select group of anesthesiologists surveyed and the low response rate

    Pressure of massless hot scalar theory in the boundary effective theory framework

    We use the boundary effective theory (BET) approach to thermal field theory in order to calculate the pressure of a system of massless scalar fields with quartic interaction. The method naturally separates the infrared physics, and is essentially non-perturbative. To lowest order, the main ingredient is the solution of the free Euler-Lagrange equation with non-trivial (time) boundary conditions. We derive a resummed pressure, which is in good agreement with recent calculations found in the literature, following a very direct and compact procedure.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Effective potential in the BET formalism

    We calculate the one-loop effective potential at finite temperature for a system of massless scalar fields with quartic interaction λϕ4\lambda\phi^4 in the framework of the boundary effective theory (BET) formalism. The calculation relies on the solution of the classical equation of motion for the field, and Gaussian fluctuations around it. Our result is non-perturbative and differs from the standard one-loop effective potential for field values larger than T/λT/\sqrt{\lambda}.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

    Quantitative Proteomic Analysis Reveals Changes in the Benchmark Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis Biovar Equi Exoproteome after Passage in a Murine Host

    Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis biovar equi is the etiologic agent of ulcerative lymphangitis. To investigate proteins that could be related to the virulence of this pathogen, we combined an experimental passage process using a murine model and high-throughput proteomics with a mass spectrometry, data-independent acquisition (LC-MSE) approach to identify and quantify the proteins released into the supernatants of strain 258_equi. To our knowledge, this approach allowed characterization of the exoproteome of a C. pseudotuberculosis equi strain for the first time. Interestingly, the recovery of this strain from infected mouse spleens induced a change in its virulence potential, and it became more virulent in a second infection challenge. Proteomic screening performed from culture supernatant of the control and recovered conditions revealed 104 proteins that were differentially expressed between the two conditions. In this context, proteomic analysis of the recovered condition detected the induction of proteins involved in bacterial pathogenesis, mainly related to iron uptake. In addition, KEGG enrichment analysis showed that ABC transporters, bacterial secretion systems and protein export pathways were significantly altered in the recovered condition. These findings show that secretion and secreted proteins are key elements in the virulence and adaptation of C. pseudotuberculosis. Collectively, bacterial pathogenesis-related proteins were identified that contribute to the processes of adherence, intracellular growth and evasion of the immune system.
